Final Lesson Plan
Teaching Method: Chalk Talk
During the first semester of my senior year, I learned about many different methods of teaching and the multiple settings RDs may have opportunities to teach. By random assignment, my partner and I were given the teaching method "chalk talk". After brainstorming, we decided our audience would be elementary school students and we would teach a lesson on the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. We had a lot of fun with this one as we had our fellow classmates sit on colorful pieces of paper on the ground and practice creating breakfasts with pictures of food. The importance of creating lesson plans was evident here, since my partner, Katie, gave birth to twins nearly a week prior to our presentation. We had a few meetings before she had her daughters and we finalized and practiced our lesson at her house, where the babies were comfortable. Life will throw some curve balls, but if you are truly prepared- you can get through anything.
Bulletin Board

During fall semester, we learned there were many ways to share a message. A bulletin board is a convenient way to teach since a teacher doesn't even have to be there, and it can be accessed at any time. For this project, I learned how to use die-cuts and had a lot of fun putting this board together with my fellow classmates. McKell and I traced the words "Hunger Games" onto the gold paper by using a projector and white board in a classroom; new experiences are always exciting. Needless to say, it was a hit!
